MAPUSA: Janvi Naik Dalal played the giant killer act, ousting top seed Mallika Gogoi to set up a title clash with Prutha Parrikar, in Ladies singles event at the Rotary Geno All Goa Major Ranking Table Tennis Tournament organised by Rotary Club of Mapusa in collaboration with Goa Table Tennis Association & SAG, at TT Hall, Peddem Sports complex.
Janvi was sensational in her 3-2 win over Mallika. She matched the top seed stroke by stroke and showed great composure while winning the final set at 11-9.
The other semi-final was a contrasting match which Prutha Parrikar won with a facile 3-0 margin over Trisha Verlekar. The sub-junior Girls final will witness a contest between Trisha Verlekar and Najida Sheikh. In the semi final matches, Trisha lost a set on way to a 3-1 win over Sneha Mesta while Najida accounted for Anushri Naik, winning 3-0.
In Junior Girls semi finals, Prutha Parrikar downed Sanisha Shetye 3-0 while the other semi finals encounter between Najida Sheikh and Janvi Naik Dalal turned out to be an edge-of-the-seat thriller, a see saw battle with fortunes fluctuating by the minute.
With two sets a piece, Najida brought out her best in a crunch situation to capture the final set at 14-12 and the match with a narrow 3-2 margin.
Najida Sheikh and Prutha Parrikar are both poised to win double crowns each.
