Jason, Kapil score brace as Dempo hammer Cuncolim

The winners net six quick goals in the last quarter of the match with Lucas scoring two Hayden and Boris one each before Kapil drives the final nail into the coffin

MAPUSA: Dempo Sports Club hammered Cuncolim Union by a 6-0 margin in the Goa Football Association inter district 2nd Division play-off match played at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Saturday.
At halftime both the teams were tied at 0-0.
Both teams took off on an attacking pace initiating a series of raids where in the early 3rd minute of play Samson Simoes saw his strike off a goal mouth melee being blocked by Dempo keeper Flezbern Souza.
Two minutes later the Cuncolim keeper David Rebello came with a neat collection off Aaron Alvares long range effort.
Samson Simoes weaved his way past the defenders and made a threatening run into the Dempo’s danger zone only to be blocked by the keeper in a one to one situation.
Couple of minutes into the match Aaron Rodrigues sent a deep floater at the Cuncolim goal which was kept away by the keeper. The ball then rolled towards unmarked Boris D’Mello who failed to score from handshaking distance.
Jason Lucas found himself guilty of squandering an open sitter in the 34th minute of play when he faltered from close range.
A minute later Sampana Rebello capitalised on a defensive error by Dempo and sent a perfect pass to overlapping Samson Simoes whose low grounder missed the target by a whisker.
Dempo almost turned the match in their favour a minute before half-time when Boris de Melo ran up the left flank and unleashed a powerful placing strike which sailed just past the Cuncolim goal after brushing past the gloves of the keeper.
On resumption of play Dempo were unlucky not to have taken the lead as Hayden Fernandes’ powerful 25-yard free-kick banged the Cuncolim upright and bounced back into play.
At the other end Dempo’s keeper Flezbern managed to push away Presley Pinto’s placing strike, where the ball then travelled to Samson Simoes who to dismay of his teammates blasted the ball wide from inside the 18-yard box.
In the next ten minutes, the match that was tied goalless, witnessed four goals being scored at regular intervals.
In the 71st minute, Cuncolim keeper did exceedingly well to block Kapil Hoble’s strike from close range. However there was nothing that the keeper could do a minute later when Jason Lucas fired home the ball from inside the Cundolim 6-yard box on second attempt, 1-0.
Hardly had the celebrations ended Dempo netted in their second goal in the very next minute through Hayden Fernandes whose fierce right footer gave no chance to the keeper, 2-0.
The scoring spree did not end there as two minutes later Jason once again sneaked his way into the Cuncolim danger zone and after dancing his way past the defenders and keeper placed the ball into the far corner of the goal, 3-0.
In the 82nd minute of play Dempo once again inflated the margin when Boris de Melo seeing the keeper off his line, intelligently flicked the ball into the nets, 4-0.
In the injury minutes of the match Kapil Hoble netted in a brace to finish off the match at 6-0.
