MARGAO: Jeff Gauncar scored a brace in Salcete FC’s 5-0 win over Ave Maria Association and Welfare Club while Jovito Fernandes scored four in St Savio’s SC 4-1 win over SAI Training Centre in the Goa Football Association’s U-16 League match played, at Cavelossim ground, on Tuesday.
The first half was more of a midfield battle as both the teams put up a strong fight to nullify each other’s attack.
However, Sherwin Vaz scored the first of the evening in the first half injury time to break the strong Ave Maria defence.
Changing over, it was completely a different story, as Salcete FC scored four more goals.
Jeff Gauncar scored in the 54th minute when he caught the rival defence napping.
His pace and game reading ability made it difficult for his opponents as he set up Tanvir Bagalkot for the team’s third in the 56th minute.
Jeff scored his brace in the 72nd minute before Adelaide Lakra hit the final nail in the coffin in the 78th minute.
Ave Maria struggled to match their opponents in the second half as the Salcete players looked fitter among the two teams as the match proceeded.
At Poriat ground, Jovito Fernandes began his goal hunt in the 23rd minute and doubled the tally at the half-hour mark.
The striker was unstoppable as he easily outplayed his opponents and scored his third in the 35th minute to complete his hat-trick.
Crossing over, SAI Training Centre pulled a goal back through Bindiar Chaudhary. Jovito scored his fourth in the 67th minute to take the final tally to 4-1.
Chetan Gaude of St Savio was booked for rough play.
