PONDA: Jimu and Kishan won the U-17 and U-14 categories respectively of the table tennis tournament organised by Lions Club of Ponda for the players’ of orphanage Matruchhaya’s Bal Kalyan Ashram, Talaulim, Ponda, on Sunday.
In the U-17 category, Jimu Bute won against Pramod Bhandari (3-1: 11-8, 10-12, 11-7, 11-4).
Harsh Naik and Rajendra Sharma were semi-final losers.
In the U-14 category, Kishan Naik beat Ritesh Gad (3-1: 7-11, 11-7, 11-5, 11-6)
Sagar Shill and Sohan Yadav were the semi-final losers.
A total 15 players took part in the tournament.
The chief referee for the tournament was Jayawant Hamanavar who was assisted by Trusha Hamanavar and Vedant Kulkarni.
President of Lions Club of Ponda Vishram Gaonkar and incoming president Pretha Naik gave away the prizes in the presence of other dignitaries.
All 60 inmates of the ashram were present for the function.
