CHINCHINIM: Joe Cookies Loutolim Veterans defeated Varca Veterans 3-1 to move into the quarter-finals of the Auto rickshaw and drivers veterans football tournament, at Our Lady of Hope Church ground, Chinchinim, on Wednesday.
In the 6th minute, Augustine Cardozo of Joe Cookies Veterans took control of the ball and dribbled past a couple of Varca defenders before he slammed a powerful grounder; but to his dismay the strike hit the outside post and went out of play.
Later, Augustine should have earned the first dividend to Joe cookies but his power packed shot got the deflection of rival defender and went out of play.
Varca Veterans had the chance to score in the 12th minute but Vilas Viegas low powered shot was easily saved by the rival goalkeeper.
The 15th minute saw Augustine Cardozo roll the ball to Joao Pedro who made no mistake to tap the ball into the nylons to give an early lead for Joe Cookies Veterans.
Again Augustine had a chance to score for Joe Cookies but instead he supplied the ball to Rosario Carvalho to double the lead for Joe Cookies in the 20th minute.
Vilas Viegas pulled a goal back for Varca in the 35th minute while Rosario Carvalho scored his brace as he inflated the lead for Joe Cookies in the 45th minute.
Joe Cookies will lock horns with Bardez Veterans on October 22 in the quarter-finals.
