RAIA: Guardian Angel SC downed Churchill Brothers FC 2-0 in the GFA’s Pro League match played at SAG ground, Benaulim, on Monday.
Churchill Brothers started the match brightly and continued to do so in search of a goal in the first half. But Guardian Angel SC’s Joel Baretto struck twice after the break to complete his brace, first finishing coolly on the break in the 49th minute, then tapping into an empty net after a selfless assist from Gilbert Oliveira in the 57th minute. Earlier, Guardian Angel SC came close to scoring through Gilbert and Joel.
Despite Lumnimlen Haokip’s late effort rattling the post, Churchill Brothers’ frustration boiled over as captain Trijoy Dias received a red card in the dying minutes.
Trijoy had a good start to the game having couple of shots on target. However, he had to end the game on a negative note.
At Sirsaim, Omkar Shetgaonkar emerged the hero for Sesa Football Academy, bagging a quickfire brace just before the half-time to seal a comfortable 2-0 win over FC Goa.
Shetgaonkar’s goals put Sesa Football Academy on 27 points from 15 games, solidifying their grip on the upper echelons of the table.
FC Goa, on the other hand, were left searching for answers after failing to break down a resolute Sesa FA defence.
