MAPUSA: A brace by Joshua D’Silva enabled Young Boys of Tonca (YBT) register a 2-1 win over 10-men Goa Police SC in a GFA’s First Division league match at Duler stadium, here on Wednesday. The teams were level 1-1 at half time.
Prajot Naik put Goa Police ahead while Joshua DSilva levelled the score for YBT in the first session.
YBT had two chances to score but Sanket Jotkar’s and Nestor Dias’ strikes rebounded off the Police crossbar.
It was in the 12th minute that Prajot scored for Police with a header off Abdul Khan’s corner.
YBT could have levelled terms seven minutes later, but Joshua was thwarted by Police goalkeeper Velroy Cardozo outside the penalty box, for which the last named was sent off by referee Valentine.
YBT, with a one-player advantage managed to draw in the 27th minute. Following an intelligent floater by medio Laishram Singha, Joshua D’Silva broke the off-side trap and beat onrushing substitute Police
custodian Nilhesh Naik.
In the added time, YBT almost took the lead but Police custodian Nilhesh brought off a brilliant in a one-on-one situation, thus denyingn Under-20 Ashok Bakka from scoring.
On crossing over, YBT had two opportunities but Sanket Jotkar’s cross hit the crossbar. Subsequently, Lucky Sabita essayed to Joshua whose header was brilliantly saved by the Police custodian. Finally, in the 83rd minute, YBT’s Joshua netted his brace to make it 2-1.
At Guirim ground, Clube Sao Miguel de Taleigao drubbed BITS Pilani 8-0. Niyaz Tambak did most of the damage as he scored six goals while Salvador Gama, Sezveno Gonsalves accounted for the remainder.
At Salvador do Mundo ground, Albert Developers managed to register a solitary goal win over Goa Velha SC. The all-important goal for Albert Developers came in the 61st minute through Raju Abbiger.
