MARGAO: A fine brace by striker Jovisco Fernandes enabled St Anthony’s Sports Club, Colva thump Football Club of Siolim 4-1 and advance into the quarter-finals of all-Goa Curtorim Gymkhana Golden Jubilee Cup inter-village football tournament, organized by Curtorim Gymkhana, at church ground, Curtorim, on Wednesday. St Anthony Sports Club led 2-0 at half time.
St Anthony started the game in the right earnest and dominated the proceedings. They took the lead in the 11th minute when striker Jovisco picked up the ball from Ryan Fernandes and the former punished the rival goalkeeper with a neat finish.
The early goal helped Colva lass as they mounted tremendous pressure on their rivals. St Anthony increased the tally in the 35th minute when Johnson Quadros bulged the net.
Post resumption, St Anthony attacked from the flanks and Jovisco completed his brace to give his team 3-0 cushion in the 45th minute.
Trailing by three goals, Football Club of Siolim went all out in the 50th minute and Bhalchandra Verekar scored the consolation goal.
Unfazed, St Anthony went into attacking mode and in the 55th minute, Maxson Fernandes placed the ball into the far post and sealed the match for the Colva team.
