MAPUSA: Joy Nair scored two minutes before the end as Goa United Sports Academy defeated El Shaddai Sports and Cultural Club 1-0 in GFA’s U-14 league at Tembi ground, Anjuna, Friday.

In the opening exchanges, Casmiro Trinadade was played one-on-one, by Akash but the rival goalkeeper managed to save the shot with his chest, before Casmiro hit the post with the rebound.

Within ten minutes, Goa United’s Mark D’Cruz shot was wonderfully tipped over by the El Shaddai custodian.

Just before the break, the ball was played over the top and Goa United defender Rajesh failed to clear it, allowing El Shaddai’s Brian to make a run towards the goal, but Rajesh managed to get back in time and make the important challenge to deny him.

Goa United continued to dominate going forward in the second half and it was mainly due to El Shaddai’s tall defender Edwin that Goa United did not open their account earlier.

In the last two minutes, Macann Pereira crossed from the right side and Joy Nair blasted in the winner for Goa United.
