JULY 23 TO DECIDE FATE OF 23 GOANS

There will be no provision for the franchises to pick players outside the draft window so that all the 10 clubs are on the same page ahead of the new-look ISL next season

PANJIM: The fate of 23 Goan players, who made it to the Indian Super League draft following their medicals done on Wednesday, will be decided on July 23 at the ISL domestic players’ draft. 
Altogether 34 players, including the likes of Arata Izumi, Rino Anto, Gouramangi Singh, Mehrajuddin Wadoo and Mohammed Rafi, completed their medicals ahead of the domestic player draft scheduled for the July 23.
Big names like –Former India International Lenny Rodrigues, FC Goa fame Romeo Fernandes, Rowilson Rodrigues and former ATK and FC Pune City player Augustin Fernandes made the cut into the ISL domestic draft.
Former Gaurs Sahil Tavora, Keenan Almeida, Pratesh Shirodkar, Fulgancio Cardozo and Denzil Franco might sport a different colour this time around after being potted in the domestic draft.
It has been learnt that Lenny Rodrigues is expected to be the best paid Goan player at the domestic draft with a contract worth Rs 60 lakh. Former FC Goa star Romeo Fernandes will be priced at Rs 50 lakh along with rising Goan keeper Albino who is also priced at Rs 50 lakh.
Goa’s upcoming defender Mohammed Ali also made it to the draft for the first time along with few others and is expected to be picked by the Goan outfit.
A minimum of 175 players will be part of the ISL domestic draft this time round, a steep increase from the 84 in season one.
All the ten clubs will have to pick up Indian players from the draft itself. There will be no provision for the franchises to pick players outside the draft window, a measure which is taken so that all the ten clubs are on the same page ahead of the new-look ISL next season.
The ISL has allowed all franchises to retain just two of their existing players while all other domestic signings should mandatorily come through the domestic player draft.
The domestic player draft is scheduled for July 23, and most of the clubs’ team and strength will be known following the process. Tata Steel’s new team will be the first to pick players in the draw, followed by Delhi Dynamos.
