MARGAO, OCT 15 Jungle Junction Boys beat Cross Road Boys 1-0 to emerge champs in the Colva inter-ward football tournament organised by Smile Boys of 3rd ward Colva at Colva beach ground on Thursday. There was no score at the lemon break.

Jungle Junction Boys beat Cross Road Boys 1-0 to emerge champs in the Colva inter-ward football tournament organised by Smile Boys of 3rd ward Colva at Colva beach ground on Thursday. There was no score at the lemon break.
In an evenly contested match, both teams were on aggressive mode right from the start and tested the keepers with well orchestrated raids. Jungle Boys had a scoring chance to break before the deadlock but their forwards failed at the rival goal.
After resumption, both teams went all out in search of the match- winner and showed greater urgency in their approach with sorties.
The all-important goal was scored by striker Anthony who unleashed a stiff grounder which crashed into the net.
Jungle Boys were richer by Rs 15,000 while Cross Road Boys had to settle for Rs 10,000.
Following individual prizes were awarded: Highest scorer of the tournament: Johnson, Lucky Boys. Best goalkeeper of the finals: Jesus, Jungle Junction Boys. Best disciplined team: Youth of Vanelim.
MLA, Francisco Mickky Pacheco was the chief guest and gave away the prizes. Nelly Rodrigues, Zilla Member, Colva and Angela Borges, sarpanch, Colva, were the guests of honour. Fr Diago Fernandes, Parish Priest, Colva church presided. Dr Hubert Gomes and Franky Sequeira, Vice-President South Goa District Congress (I) were special invitees. Nasciment Fernandes, organising secretary welcomed. Xavier Fernandes, president of Smile Boys proposed the vote of thanks.
