PANJIM: Dempo SC Jrs defeated Santo Estevan Sports Club 3-2 in the GFA Second Division League match played at Goa Velha ground, on Tuesday.
Dempo had big names among their ranks with the likes of former Salgaocar FC captain Remus Gomes, ex-AIFF academy players Hayden Fernandes, Kapil Hoble, Aaron Rodrigues and the Panjim team did exceptionally well to outplay their opponents.
Despite a strong attacking line-up for Dempo jrs, St Estevan managed to keep the scores level for half-hour and finally conceded in the 39th minute when Kapil Hoble’s smart effort gave no chance for the rival keeper. Dempo Jrs led 1-0 at the break.
Changing ends, Dempo doubled the lead in the 49th minute through Kapil.
The Dempo defence was a rock solid throughout the game with experienced Remus leading the youth players in the back line. However, the Golden Eagles juniors conceded a soft goal in the 50th minute through Alroy Rodrigues.
Bavesh Kerkar scored the third for the Dempo in the 78th minute. The Panjim team played a good brand of football with quick passing and swift counter-attacks.
Dempo SC jrs’ Kapil was booked for rough play.
