PANJIM: Kewal Tamhankar won both the men’s and youth boys singles titles to clinch a double crown at the 8th Late Ramacanta V.P. Dharwatkar Memorial all-Goa table tennis tournament organised by Panjim Table Tennis Club in collaboration with the Sports Authority of Goa, at Indoor Stadium, Campal, on Saturday.
Nikhil Jadhav in men’s and Pranav Naik in youth had to be contended with the runners-up spots in the tournament.
Rishan Sheikh (mini cadets), Aaron Farias (cadets), Aaron Colaco (sub-junior) and Vedant Kulkarni (junior) were the other notable winners while Yatharth Baliyan, Fynn Gonsalves, Nathan Barua and Anish Verlekar emerged as runners-up in mini cadets, cadets, sub junior and junior boys singles categories respectively.
Promising player prizes were awarded to Swayam Chodankar and Sankalp Kavlekar in the boys section. In the girls section, Riya Gopi will meet Samaira Soares in mini cadets girls singles final while the final of the cadets girls will be contested between Urvi Surlekar and Sunidhi Sawaikar.
In sub-junior girls, Najida Sheikh will take on Simran Kubal who has also reached the junior girls final, where she will face the challenge of Aalya Arora.
Former National football player Stanley Colaco, sports promoters Mahendra Dharwatkar and Sumeet Tendulkar, Jt. secretary, Goa Olympic Association Chetan Kavlekar, referee Noel Estibeiro and Panjim Table Tennis Club officials secretary Selvyn Godinho and Vice President Sandeep Heble graced the final.
