PANJIM: Ninety spots in table tennis, badminton, swimming will be finalised soon for the 2nd Khelo India programme which will start on May 22 at Campal, Panjim.
Nearly 50 percent of the candidates are expected to be locals, with the rest being from the other parts of the country.
Two counseling sessions have been planned with parents of Goan candidates to apprise them of the process that was involved in selections and what they could expect now. The have to stay in hostels compulsorily.
Each candidate will be evaluated every quarter. Those who do not meet the mark will be weeded out in March.
This selection process was conducted last month with the response from the rest of the country being better than those from Goa. There were 80 candidates outside Goa who reported out of 300 applicants. The standard of outstation candidates was found to be superior as compared to Goan athletes.
