PANJIM: Goa Chess Association Secretary Kishor M Bandekar in recognition of his ongoing efforts to promote chess in the country has been elected as the ‘Treasurer’ of the All India Chess Federation (AICF) being part of helm of affairs of the federation.
Bandekar was elected unopposed in the general election of central council held recently for a three-year term (2017-2020). It’s the first time that a Goan representative has been elected to the treasurer’s post for AICF, the governing body for chess in India.
Bandekar was pleased with the appointment, “I am glad that the members have given me a chance to serve the Federation. Together with the members I shall strive hard to promote chess in the country. The aim is start a chess culture in the country and get as many people play the game,” said Bandekar, who served as the Joint Secretary of AICF for the last two terms.
R Venketrama Raja CMD of Ramco Group of Companies has been re-elected for 2nd term as President of AICF and Bharatsingh Chowan as Secretary of AICF in 15 members central council represented by all affiliated states of India.
Bandekar was the member of the Executive Committee of the Goa Chess Association in 1981 and was vice President in 2005-09, Treasurer in 2009-2013, Secretary in 2013-17 and re-elected unopposed as the Secretary of the GCA for the term 2017-21.
