KSEB spikers too good for ICF

PANJIM, APRIL 19 ICF disappointed a sell-out crowd as they tamely surrendered to KSEB, Kerala in three straight sets in the finals of 2nd Wilred Leisure All-India Volleyball Tournament organized by Wilred Leisure Sports Club, Curtorim at St. Alex Church court, Curtorim on Sunday. KSEB won Rs 50,000 and ICF had to be content with Rs 30,000.

ICF disappointed a sell-out crowd as they tamely surrendered to KSEB, Kerala in three straight sets in the finals of 2nd Wilred Leisure All-India Volleyball Tournament  organized by Wilred Leisure Sports Club, Curtorim at St. Alex Church court, Curtorim on Sunday. KSEB won Rs 50,000 and ICF had to be content with Rs 30,000.
Till 10-all in the first set, the vociferous crowd had much to cheer, there being rallies galore with plenty of thrills. But it turned out to be a flash in the pan as the Kerala team’s
best smasher Najib went on scoring points from direct hits and they won 25-12.
ICF, who in the earlier stages had earned the applause of volleyball aficionados with their all-round display, could not put their act together in the second and third sets. Prabakaran, Junior India player, was off-colour, unable to reproduce the form that he displayed especially in the semi-finals.
KSEB kept up their tempo and won 25-14, 25-20 to romp deserving winners.
Following porizes were awarded: Best lifter of the tournament Jayalal KJ of KSEB (brother of Kapil Dev). Best attacker Nazib of KSEB. All-round player Prabakaran of ICF.
Chief Minister, Digambar Kamat was the chief guest. Anthony Rebelo, former India footballer from Curtorim, Bruno Lourenco, social worker, businessmen and an ardent sports lover, John D’Silva former State and  Customs volleyball player from Curtorim were felicitated by the Chief Minister in the presence of  Vijay Sardessai, GPCC Gen Secretary, V M Prabhudessai, SAG Executive Director, Reginaldo Lourenco, MLA Curtorim and host of other dignitaries. 
Dionisio Sardinha, Gen Secretary, Wilred Leisure Sports Club proposed the vote of thanks and praised Reginaldo for his superb support in organising the event.
Earlier, a spectacular fireworks display, a stunning show by African Acrobats and the man in black, Charlie Chaplain enthralled the crowd.
