PANJIM:Churchill Brothers FC added another prize to their showcase, after winning the Vedanta Women’s football league at the Duler Stadium on Monday beating Sinquerim SC 4-0.
The achievement pleased Valanka Alemao, Club CEO, who reflected on efforts across the board by the club’s coaching and support staff. “Kudos to the team, more so because they won the title by playing without a day’s break.
“Of course, all teams in the competition had to do so and we have to hand it out to the players across the league.
“After all, adequate rest is the key after you do the hard yards for 90 minutes and hats off to our coach Girija and the support staff,” she said.
Churchill Brothers clinched the title with an unbeaten run in the league’s sixth edition and Valanka reflected on an effort right from selection to systematic training of the squad.
On a more profound note, she said women’s football needs support, starting with parental encouragement and care of the girl child.
The league, she said, was important to push the women’s game forward. She appreciated the role that Vedanta, the title sponsors, have played in their support of the women’s game.
Valanka also cited the u-17 league as an important platform to develop talent and take it forward.
As head of the AIFF women’s committee, Valanka looks forward to up the ante for women’s football in the country as well as Goa.
However, she said, “I don’t have a magic wand to change things. I need everyone concerned to work together. We need to brainstorm and share ideas to achieve our goals.”
