Lawyer’s Challengers, Hurricanes make winning starts

PANJIM: Defending champions Lawyer’s Challengers and Hurricanes began their campaign in the 4th edition of Advocates Premier League (ACL T20) with emphatic wins at GCA ground, Porvorim on Saturday.

While holders Lawyer’s Challengers thrashed Risers by 7 wickets, Hurricanes crushed  Vintage Mapusa by 8 wickets.

Batting first, Risers posted a challenging 150 for 6 with opener Akash Kasskar top-scoring wit a 49-ball 65 that had 9 fours and one six.

Anoop Kudtarkar (30), Abhay Rivonkar (25) and Yogesh Kankonkar were the other contributors. For Lawyer’s Challengers, Achit Shigwan and Dattaparasad Shirodkar claimed two wickets each while Dattaraj Parab took one.

Lawyer’s Challengers opening pair of Sachin Sardessai and Dattaparasad Shirodkar put on 58 runs before the former departed for 37. Next batter Achit Shigwan along with Dattaparasad tormented the rival batters. Dattaprasad scored a 46-ball 52 while Acchit hit a 28-ball 46 as Lawyer’s Challengers  chased down the target in 17.5 overs with 7 wickets in hand.

Achit Shigwan was named man of the match for his all round performance.

Earlier in the inaugural match, Hurricanes rode on a fine unbeaten knock of 84 runs off 50 balls by Vitthalraj Sangodkar to complete a thumping 8-wicket victory over Vintage Mapusa. 

Vitthalraj hit 14 fours and 2 sixes in his 50-ball innings to help his team overhaul Vintage Mapusa’s 130-run target in just 15.1 overs. 

Devanand Korgaonkar (18) and Satchit Mauskar (11*) were the other run getters for Hurricanes. Vintage Mapusa’s Mahesh Shetgaonkar and Sandeep DMello took one wicket reach.

Earlier, Vintage Mapusa’s top- four batters got starts but none of them could convert them into a big score. Their lower order also did not contribute much, as a result of which they could post a modest total of 129 for 7 in their allotted 20 overs.

Sandeep DMello (26), Sheldon Lobo (21) Sagar Parab (16) and Shailesh Redkar (23) got into double digit. 

For Hurricanes, Sahish Mahambrey and Dishan Naik claimed two wickets each, while Rohan Shirodkar and Viraj Tari chipped in with wicket apiece.

Vitthalraj Sangodkar was adjudged the man of the match for his wonderful unbeaten 84-run innings.

On Sunday, Hurricanes will take on Troopers in the first match while Lawyer’s Challengers will play against Stars in the second match.
