MARGAO: Churchill Brothers Sports Club thumped Guardian Angel Sports Club 4-1 in GFA’s Taca Goa U-20 Football tournament, at the artificial turf ground outside Nehru Stadium, here, on Tuesday. Churchill Brothers led 4-0 at half time.
The Red Machines dominated the proceeding as Leander D’Cunha scored a fine hat-trick.
He opened the floodgates in the fourth minute and doubled the advantage in the eighth minute.
It was all over for Guardian Angel SC in the 11th minute itself as Leander registered his hat-trick.
Thereafter, Guardian Angel SC tried hard to make a comeback but Mairon Fernandes’ shot was blocked by the defence of Churchill Bros SC in the 26th minute.
Six minutes later, Mairon came close to scoring but was unfortunate to see his effort hit the goal post after a pass by Jaison Dias.
At the other end, Churchill Bros SC made it 4-0 through Basant Rai off an assist by Sanwil D’Costa.
A the change of ends, Guardian Angel SC played defensively with Brian Faria and Austin Fernandes tackling the moves of the rival striker on several occasions.
In the 49th minute, Austeen Fernandes of Guardian Angel SC blocked a powerful shot from Churchill Bros SC’s Arjun.
In the 62nd minute, Mairon finally found the back of the net with a deft placement off a cross by Jaison Dias.
Speaking to Herald, Churchill Bros SC coach, Joao Rebello felt that it was a comeback performance for his side from the performance they put in previous matches.
Guardian Angel SC coach Riston Rodrigues took positives from the match although he felt his boys missed sitters.
