PANJIM: Senior vice-president of Goa Football Association (GFA) Lavinio Rebello disclosed that from 2019-20 season all teams participating in the official leagues, including the Third Division and youth age group tournaments conducted by GFA will have to have coaches with licence, the minimum being the D-Licence.
He was speaking at the inaugural of the C Licence course organised in collaboration with the AIFF, at Duler conference hall, Mapusa, on Friday.
He also disclosed the second D-Licence course will be held in Mapusa soon and that the AIFF were also keen in organising the AFC goalkeeping licence course in April in Goa given the professional manner in which the GFA has been organising the same.
He urged the participants, “Be role models, lead by example and also impart values and mold the youth so that one not only takes up to football as a healthy recreational activity but also becomes a role model in citizenship. Whatever you do, do it with passion which entails hard work, perseverence, sacrifice and stress on giving as much as one can.”
Lavinio, who is the chairman of the GFA’s technical and coaching committee, pointed out that this was the second course being conducted for coaches after the D-Licence, asked the 24 participants from Bahrain, Kerala, Bangalore and Goa to look upon the course director Savio Medeira as an inspiration and take up the challenge as well as to enjoy the coaching work with dedication and passion.
Savio, who is the AIFF’s Acting Technical Director and Director of Coach Education, is being assisted by Shekar Kerkar and Umer Muttawalli with Anthony Lobo being the main course coordinator.
The course which started today will conclude on Feb 27 and consists of both theory and practicals with examination for obtaining the licence.
