PANJIM: Goa’s Santosh Trophy heroes Liston Colaco and teammate Assumption Soares have been called for India U-22 team trials for the AFC qualifiers at Andheri Sports Complex, Mumbai, on Tuesday.
The duo have been included in the list of 40 probables from across the country selected by the All India Football Federations (AIFF) scouting network and are undergoing trials under India coach Stephen Constantine in a four-day trial camp.
Liston earlier plying his trade for Salgaocar Football Club has made made his mark for his club both—at junior and senior teams and scored 13 goals for Salgaocar FC in the Goa Pro League in his debut season. His mercurial instincts and his ability to score goals have also helped Goa in the Santosh Trophy, wherein the host lost against their rivals –West Bengal in final.
The Davorlim lads explosive and extraordinary skills have earned him a place in the FC Goa squad in coming season.
Assumption Soares, a former Sesa Academy product and Dempo SC player who also impressed during the Santosh Trophy has caught the eye of AIFF scouting network. The left back was rock solid in Goa’s defence.
The boys would be going through training sessions under India Coach Steven Constantine to get selected for the final selection-cum- preparatory camp for the AFC U-22 Qualifiers which are slated to be played in July this year.
“I have always believed that there is talent in this country. Hence, we have summoned a lot many players whom we selected from the universities and the Santosh Trophy. These are players whom we have not seen before and if at least one player is good enough to go to the next level, it will be a huge success for the AIFF’s scouting network,” Constantine said.
Constantine has handed debuts to 31 players since taking over as the national team coach in February 2015.
