MAPUSA: Salgaocar Football Club scored a huge 5-0 win over Vasco Sports Club in the GFA’s Professional League match, at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Friday.
By virtue of this win, Salgaocar climbs to 18 points from nine matches while Vasco remains on 9 points from nine matches.
Salgaocar made their intentions clear from the very start of the match when in the third minute itself skipper Gilbert Oliveira curled in his corner kick towards Keita Boubacar who finished off through a firm header, 1-0.
Couple of minutes later, Mackroy Peixoto sent an accurate pass to Kamo Stephen Bayl who got the better off the keeper and tried to tap the ball home only to see defender Allen Fernandes come with a timely clearance.
Liston Colaco took the Green Brigade up by a 2-0 margin when on getting hold of a pass from Mackroy he unleashed a powerful shot which had no answer from the Vasco keeper.
Vasco keeper Shilton Fernandes came with some brilliant saves under the horizontal bar to frustrate the efforts of Gilbert Oliveira, Ivory Costa-Kamo Stephane Bayi, Liston Colaco and Denil Rebello.
However Liston once again came viciously attacking and further inflated the lead for Salgaocar by giving finishing touches to Gilbert’s spade work, 3-0.
Keeper Shilton came with a brave save in the 33rd minute of play to deny Kamo Stephane Bayi from scoring off a one on one situation.
Crossing over, Salgaocar continued from where they had left and took the score tally to 4-0 when Gilbert sent a defence splitting pass to Mackroy Peixoto who after charging into the 18-yard box scored through a powerful placement, 4-0.
After several failed efforts Kamo Stephane Bayi almost got his name to the scorers list in the 78th minute, however his stinging shot banged the Vasco horizontal bar.
However with two minutes to go for the final whistle Kamo Stephane Bayi made amends for his earlier mistake when he slotted home the ball from inside the penalty area.
