Liston nets winner for Sesa FA

MAPUSA: Sesa Football Academy registered a solitary goal victory over Sporting Clube de Goa, in GFA’s under-18 First Division football league match, at Duler Stadium, here, on Friday.

There were two penalties, one for either team. Sesa made the best use of the spot-kick through Liston Fernandes in the 61st minute but Sporting Clube wasted their chance to equalize as Jonathan Cardozo’s penalty hit the upright in the injury time.
Sesa were defeated by Sporting Clube 3-1 in the home fixture, on Tuesday and the academy boys tried to settle the scores this time round.  
Sporting Clube had the edge in the first session with superior ball possession but they creativity in the final third.
At the other end, Sesa did well to soak the rival pressure and did manage to create a few chances.
Sesa’s Latesh Mandrekar had the first go from the edge of the box but the strikers’ right-foot grounder was easily collected by Sporting Clube custodian Selwyn D’Souza.
Thereafter, Sporting Clube threatened continuously through Akeeraj Martins, Jesroy Fernandes and Shivkumar Pathan but their efforts did not materialize.
Post resumption, The Flaming Oranje continued in search of the opener. Hardworking Akeeraj nearly scored but his powerful half volley missed the target narrowly.
As the match progressed, Sesa were unlucky after Runnal Shirodkar’s shot was handled by Sporting Clube defender Jason Monteiro and referee Shivram overlooked the incident.
In the 61st minute Sesa eventually were awarded a penalty as Shivkumar brought down Aaren D’Silva in the danger zone.
Right-winger Liston Fernandes stepped up for the spot-kick and converted with ease. 
Sporting Clube had a lifeline in the final minute when Akeeraj was brought down by a rival defender in the 18-yard box but off the resultant penalty, Jonathan Cardozo saw his attempt hit the upright.
At Benaulim ground, Churchill Brothers Sports Club and AIFF played out a goalless.
