MAPUSA: Salgaocar Football Club thrashed Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim 4-0 in the GFA’s Goa Pro League, at Duler stadium, on Saturday.
This is Salgaocar’s third victory in the league, as they top the table with nine points, while Cavelossim who tasted their first defeat in the league are on four points.
It was the Green Brigade who held major ball possession in the match, where in the 10th minute Mackroy Peixoto got hold of a long ball from defence and sent it towards U-20 Liston, who coolly slotted the ball home 1-0. Salgaocar almost doubled the lead in the next minute itself but Brian Mascarenhas failed to connect Gilbert Oliviera’s low cross.
Raymond Fernandes came to Cavelossim’s rescue in the 18th minute of play when he denied Salgaocar’s Gilbert from scoring off Mackroy’s cross into the 18-yard box.Cavelossim keeper Agnelo Gomes affected a brilliant save in the 40th minute to deny Ronaldo Oliveira from further inflating the lead.
On resumption, Salgaocar were once again all over the Cavelossim colts where in the 60th minute, Naro H Shrestha leapt high to nod in Jovel Martin’s curling cross, 2-0.
The men in green did not wait for long and in a matter of six minutes further increased the lead through Liston Colaco, whose powerful 25-yard right footer zoomed past the diving Cavelossim keeper Agnelo Gomes, 3-0.
Despite the scoreline, Salgaocar’s hunger for goals did not cease, where in the 74th minute Gilbert Oliviera saw his long range effort kiss the Cavelossim woodwork. In the 85th minute, Cavelossim had a chance to reduce the margin however Joshuah Vaz saw his strike go inches past the target.
Three minutes later Salgaocar fired in their fourth goal when Jovel Martins set the ball to Rosario Mendes, who finished off clinically to take the score tally to 4-0.
