MAPUSA: A 79th minute goal from Lloyd Mascarenhas who nodded home a free-kick by Richard Cardoz from the right flank enabled Sporting Clube de Goa to score a solitary goal win over a fighting Sesa Football Academy, in the AIFF’s U-18 Youth League match, at Duler Stadium, here.
The match was dominated by Sporting Clube with the fluid passing play from their midfielders.
Sesa FA managed to keep their goal intact, though they nearly conceded midway into the first half when Stendly struck the upright following a mix-up between the keeper Singh and his defenders.
Crossing over, without a goal being scored, Sporting Clube attack looked much brighter as they probed the rival defence in search of the elusive goal.
Sesa FA on the other hand soaked up the pressure and counter attacked with gusto with their spearhead Benjohnson Metei making some fine runs to keep the Sporting Clube defence on their toes.
As the game appeared to be headed for a goalless draw Stendly was brought down as he broke through on the right flank. Richard who stepped up to take the resultant free-kick sent in a pinch perfect ball which was smartly headed into the Sesa FA goal by lanky Lloyd to give the precious winner to his side.
