Lloyd’s brace gives Sporting Clube win

MAPUSA: A two-goal blitz by Lloyd Cardozo enabled Sporting Clube de Goa register a 2-0 win over Pax of Nagoa Sports Club in the Goa Professional League organised by the GFA at Duler Stadium, here, on Thursday.

Sporting Clube did have better of the exchanges and attacks at the rival goal but managed to find the nets through Lloyd Cardozo in the first session.

It was the new entrants that had the first strike at the rival goal but Sporting Clube Goalkeeper Manjunath Hirekurbar collected Delton Colaco’s strike at the first post.

In the 37th minute, Sporting Clube came close in opening their account but a fierce shot by Lloyd was blocked for a corner by Pax of Nagoa skipper Joseph Clemente.

Finally, in the 42nd minute, Flaming Oranje forged ahead where a stinging 25-yard shot by Ivon Costa was too hot for Pax of Nagoa Goalkeeper Ozen Silva to collect and Lloyd scored off the rebound 1-0.

A minute before the breather, Pax of Nagoa striker Delton Colaco collected a pass from Sherwin Abranches and after covering some ground latched a right footer which zoomed over the horizontal bar.

On crossing ends, Flaming Oranje dictated terms and had numerous chances to further increase their lead. Strong headers from Myron Fernandes and Alton Vaz from Ivon Costa corners was collected by Pax of Nagoa Goalkeeper Silva.

In the last quarter of the match, Sporting Clube’s striker Lloyd who played the stellar role for his team after seeing two of his goal-bound strikes being saved by Pax of Nagoa custodian finally netted his brace in the 88th minute after dribbling a host of rival defenders 2-0.

Lloyd Cardozo received the man-of-the-match award from the hands of Ravindra Cabral, GFA’s Executive Committee member.
