FATORDA: Loyola High School, Margao got the better of Mount Mary’s High School, Chinchinim 4-0 to move into the next round of the U-14 Suborto Mukerjee Cup (Salcete Zone) football tournament, at artificial turf, Fatorda, on Thursday.
Anistern Furtado of Loyolas guarded the defence line throughout while Lance Saldhana dominated the upfront. Rizile Fernandes and Jebrez Mannur were outstanding for Mount Marys.
The best chance came in for Loyola HS in the 4th minutes of play when Phil Braganza took control of the ball from
Jonas but Phil’s move was tackled by Rizlile Fernandes of Mount Mary HS in the 6th minute.
Glen Fernandes of Loyola HS should have hit the back of rival net but shot wide in the 8th minute. Jebrez Mannur tried a solo effort for Mount Mary HS in the 12th minute but Rui Barretto foiled his move for Loyola HS.
However it was Loyola HS took the lead in the 21st minute through Lance Saldana who banged the shot inside the rival net to make it 1-0.
Crossing over Loyala HS scored the second goal of this match through Jonas Ranger carpet drive shot.
Rui Noronha had the best go inside the rival box but blocked by Rajveer Pal of Mount Marys HS in the 28th minute, Achilles Fernandes scored for Loyola’s HS in the 30th minute took the tally to 3-0 while Jonas made it 4-0 for Loyola HS in the dying minute of second half.
In the other matches of the day St Rita High School, Maina defeated Our Lady of Snows, Raia 2-0 while Fr Agnel High School, Verna defeated Assumpta Convent High School, Sarzora 7-0.
