PANJIM: Loyola High.School, Margao defeated Perpetual Succour Convent High School, Navelim 4-1 to be crowned Champions of the 1st CSC U-10 Futsal league powered by Nave Marg Foundation and organised by Youth Futsal Academy, at Chowgule Futsal court, on Sunday.
Loyola drew first blood as their skipper Abner Noronha carried the ball forward with pace in the 9th minute and dribbled past the last defender before tucking it neatly past the onrushing Perpetual keeper giving Loyola the lead.
Three minutes later and Loyola doubled their lead when a kick in by Keegan Crasto was accidentally headed into his own net by a Perpetual defender. Loyola then made it 3-0 in the 13th minute this time Keegan Crasto scored an outrageous free-kick from inside his half that left the Perpetual keeper stranded.
Perpetual tried hard to get back into the match and almost did but lady luck deserted them as their star man saw his brilliant effort hit the crossbar and go out for a goalkick just before the halftime whistle.
The second half saw Perpetual give it their all to come back into the match as Sakib and Valen emptied their tanks trying to get past a stubborn Loyola defence. Sakib finally scored for his team but it proved to be only a consolation as the final whistle was sounded a couple of minutes later. Abner was adjudged the man-of-the-match of the Finals.
The chief guest for the final, Minister for Town and Country planning and Agriculture Vijai Sardesai said “I am delighted at seeing these kids playing and I congratulate YFA in helping Goa move Forward in the game of futsal by organising such a league.”
Chairperson MMC was the Guest of Honour Dr Babita Prabhudesai, Technical Director AIFF Savio Madeira was also present.
