PANJIM: Luke Stars Benaulim were made to struggle before ultimately clinching the Domnic Fernandes & Domnic Colaco (Kodak) memorial trophy, organised by United Friends Benaulium, edging Dream 7 4-3 via tie-breaker, at Benaulim.
Benaulim team started brightly asserting pressure from the word go and surged ahead through Nicolas, who scored from a direct free-kick which gave no chance for rival keeper Allwyn.
Benaulim continued to dominate the play in the second session but Dream 7 were lucky to bag the equaliser. With just two minutes left on the clock, Santan sent in a cross from the flank to Richard, who kept his composure before slotting past the Benaulim keeper Reaston.
In the resulted tie-breaker, Benaulim proved to be better shooters.
Curtorim MLA Reginaldo Laurenco was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up in the presence of Glyda Fernandes, Xavier Pereira, Reginald Silva and Trevor Fernandes, club Secretary Jeku Fernandes, Anthony Rodrigues, Elias Fernandes and other dignitaries.
The winners pocked Rs 30,000. Following were the awards: Best player of the tournament: Velito (Luke Stars); Best defender: Roger (St Rock Fatrade); Best goalkeeper: Allwyn (Dream 7); Best midfielder: Richard (Dream 7); Best goalkeeper: Reaston (Luke Stars); Man of the final: Nicholas (Luke Stars).
