MAPUSA: Lydia Barreto and Shourya Joshi won quadruple crowns while Harsh Mane who is ranked India number 13, Sakshi Kubbghelgi, Trisha Joshi, Rudra Dukle and Arjun Fallary won double crowns each, at the Yonex Sunrise Sub Junior and Junior All Goa major ranking badminton tournament held at Peddem Sports Complex.
Yash Desai, Siya Kolwalkar, Aryan Kumar, Disha Dutta, Yasmin Sayed and Sushil Nayak were the other notable winners in the first ranking tournament of the season organised by Morning Badminton Club and Shuttlers Club in collaboration with Goa Badminton Association (GBA) & the Sports Authority of Goa (SAG).
While many of the results went on expected lines, the most significant result was in U-19 doubles, where Aryaman Saraf and Chetan Magdum upset Rudra Dukle and Sushil Nayak in the semi finals to emerge deserving runners up.
The pick of the players were Lydia Barreto and Shourya Joshi who played with high intensity and aggression to win the U17 and 19 singles titles along with the doubles titles which they added to their kitty. Similarly, Harsh Mane and Rudra Dukle reigned supreme in U-13 and U-15 boys singles categories while Sakshi K and Trisha Joshi won the U-13 and U-15 girls singles titles.
Sparsh Kolwalkar, Parasmay Shenoy, Himansh Solanki, Pranjal Sachan, Ashmeet Parsekar, Atharv Pednekar, Sakshi G, Rishi Khot, Adrian De Souza, Suraj Naik, Abhishek Swamy, Aryan Phatarpekar, Minino De Souza, Karan Naik, Tejas Suthar, Priyamwada Maurya, Hariesh Rajput, Anuj Vernekar and Shubham Swamy won promising player prizes.
Richard De Souza, ex GBA President and former Principal Conservator of Forests, Elizabeth De Souza, Agnelo Da Cunha, Sapanch, Taleigao Panchayat, Nilesh Nayak, Businessman and Sports promoter, Vinayak Kamat, SAG Coach and GBA officials Narahar Thakur (President) and Sandeep Heble (Secretary) graced the closing function.
