CALANGUTE: Maddo Vaddo, Calangute defeated Gaura Vaddo (East ) by a solitary goal in the final of Adolf Silveira Memorial Cup Calangute inter-ward football tournament, organised by Calangute United and supported by Anthony Menezes family. The final was held at Calangute Association ground on Sunday.
Witnessed by a large sunday crowd including tourists as well as supporters of the teams, the match started on a fast pace. Both the teams missed golden opportunities at the very start of the match.
Richard Cardozo scored the match winner for Maddo Vaddo in the 5th minute of play. Ashwin D’souza sent a through ball to Richard into the danger zone, who on seeing the rival keeper charging towards him curled the ball to the far right corner of the net.
Changing over Gaura Vaddo pressed hard to find the equaliser but Maddo Vaddo keeper Joaquim Cardozo came up with two classic saves.
Chief guest Bruno Coutinho, Arjuna Awardee & former International football player, guest of honour Alex Miranda former Dempo Player, Anthony Menezes, sarpanch of VP Calangute, Rupa Chodankar, Dy sarpanch of VP Calangute gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up.
The winners and runners-up were awarded Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively.
