PANJIM: Madhavan G and Geno Brand Ambassador Swera Ann Braganca emerged champions in the Open and Girls category respectively in late Atmaram A Gauns Memorial all-Goa U-13 State Chess Selection in the Open and Girls category organized by Ponda Taluka Chess Association, at Wagle High School, Mangeshi, on Sunday.
Leon Mendonca and Shivank Kuncolienkar finished at second and third place in the Open category. Eesh Prabhudesai, Aayush Shirodkar, Vernon Colaco, Anurag Adwalpalkar, Akhilesh Nigalye, Sharath Shanbhag, Harsh Dagare, Sairaj Vernekar and Vraj Porob bagged the fourth to 12th place respectively.
Geno Brand Ambassador Gunjal Chopdekar finished second while Sanvi Naik Gaonkar bagged third place in the Girls category. Sayuri Naik, Tanvi Hadkonkar, Alaina Pereira, Vibhuti Dessai and Asfiya Lashkarwale got fourth to eight place respectively.
The consolation prizes were awarded to Devesh Naik and Srilaxmi Kamat from Ponda Taluka and Saish Pednekar and Divya Gaude from Wagle High School.
Kishor Bandekar, secretary, Goa Chess Association was the chief guest for the prize distribution function.
Also present were Dr Shantanu Gauns, Mitasha Aigal, headmistress, Wagle High School); Sagar Sakordekar, president, Ponda Taluka Chess Association; Amogh Namshiker, secretary, Ponda Taluka Chess Association; Chief arbiter Sanjay Kavlekar and Satyawan Harmalkar, joint secretary, Goa Chess Association.
Vatan Kuncolienkar, Anand Kurtiker, Jayashree Madkaikar, Mahesh Khedekar, Pramod Kamat and Claret Shastry took active part in organizing the tournament.
Earlier, Sagar welcomed. Amogh read the tournament report and later proposed the vote of thanks.
