MARGAO: Mae dos Pobres High School, Nuvem registered a fluent 3-0 win over St Mary’s High School, Varca to cruise into the quarter-final of All-Goa under-15 Petlu’s Gold and Diamond Trophy inter-school football tournament organized by Petlu’s and Son’s, Varca, at Varca ground, on Wednesday.
Mae dos Pobres led 1-0 at the break.
Mae dos Pobres dominated the game and kept St Mary’s on the back foot for a major part of the game. Mae dos Pobres broke the deadlock in the 5th minute when Darryl Coutinho rocked the citadel with snap shot.
Spurred by the early success, Mae dos Pobres intensified their attacks but their forwards ballooned over close range.
At the other end, St Mary’s were struggling to contain their rival’s rampaging forwards. Jesus Noronha inflated the tally soon after resumption when he outpaced his marker and flicked the ball into the net.
St Mary’s were at the receiving end and striker Aaron Rodrigues could not lead his team as he did not receive adequate support from his colleague.
Preston Fernandes drove the last nail into rival coffin at fag end to troop out worthy winners.
