Mahesh helps Sateri SC down Bhagwati SC

TALEIGAO: An eighteenth minute strike from Mahesh Naik enabled Sateri Sport Club to register a solitary goal win over Bhagwati Sports Club in the Goa Football Association Second Division Ilhas Zone League match played at Taleigao ground, on Wednesday.
Playing their first match of the campaign, both the sides played end to end football in the opening minutes of the play. While Bhagwati played more of short passes, Sateri relied more on counters and were successful in breaking the Bhagwati defence in the 18th minute when Mahesh was fed by a perfect delivery from Karan K, and the former made no mistake in smashing past the helpless rival custodian.
Bhagwati’s Gangaram Diwadkar was flashed yellow card for rough play. Despite end to end football, there wasn’t much action in the first half.
The second half wasn’t much different as teams displayed the urgency to score, but either their strikers lacked sharpness or the goalkeepers denied the opponents to keep the scores the same. The final minutes of the game saw Sateri fall back to hold on to their slender lead adding more men to their defence which made it difficult for Bhagwati to make any inroads. Sateri’s Karan also went into the referee’s books for rough play. Sateri won 1-0.
