MARGAO: Maina Sports Club beat Verna Sports Club 2-1 to emerge champions in the finals of 3rd Loutulim Panchayat Cup inter-village football tournament organised by Socio Cultural Club of Loutolim at Montir ground, Loutulim on Sunday. Maina led 1-0 at the breather.
Verna’s persistent forays paid off in the 18th minute when Serino Noronha drew first blood.
Verna tried level best to score but were thwarted by Maina defenders.
Maina continued to dictate terms even after the break and Nelson Fernandes doubled the lead in the 10th minute. Verna retaliated and scored the consolation goal through Manuel Moniz.
Maina were richer by Rs 35,000 and trophy while Verna had to settle for Rs 25,000 plus trophy.

Noronha of Maina. Best disciplined team Nuvem Sports Club. Man-of-the-final Manuel Moniz of Verna. Best player of the tournament Brendon Fernandes of United Club of Benaulim.
Earlier, Viola Pacheco felicitated veteran footballer Gil Soares and also the SSCC football team for winning the Don Bosco final.
Viola was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of Loutolim sarpanch Sergio Noronha and deputy sarpanch Catharine Fernandes. Domnic Dias, president of Socio Cultural Club of Loutolim welcomed. Blasie Britto secretary, proposed the vote of thanks.
