SIRLIM: Despite playing with one less player, Maina Sports Club defeated St Rock Youth Club, Majorda, 3-1 and moved into the quarter-finals of 24th All-Goa inter-village football tournament at Chinchinim church ground, Thursday.
Jeywin Carneiro was the hero for Maina scoring the opening goal in the 6th minute from a difficult angle. But soon, he turned the villain when he was evicted for dissent by referee Caetano Pereira in the 26th minute.
Josley Dias restored parity for Majorda when he slotted home a free kick in the 29th minute.
Crossing over, Maina lads displayed better coordination and regained the lead in the 39th minute through Nickson Castanha and made the issue safe in the stoppage time from the spot.
Maina will now meet Arlem Youth Association Raia.
