VIRABHAT-CURTORIM: Maina SC, Curtorim edged past Raia Sporting SC 2-1 to move into the quarter-finals of the 31st Curtorim Panchayat Cup, organised by Curtorim Gymkhana, at DSYA ground, on Monday.
Raia scored the first goal of the match through Wilfred Gomes with a nice header after a fine cross from Jouston Barbosa in the14th minute.
However, the joy was short-lived as Maina equalised through Edwin Sequeira in 19th minute after fine pass from Jameson Noronha to make it 1-1 in first half.
In the second half, Maina scored their second goal through Stewart D’Mello’s curler in the 39th minute to make it 2-1.
Raia tried their best to score but till the final whistle Maina’s defence line defended well and didn’t give any chance to the Raia strikers to score more goals.
Maina’s Veron Fernandes was awarded the man-of-the-match by Alex Dias (ex player and coach of Curtorim Gymkhana).
