SIRLIM: Maina Sports Club sailed into the semi-finals of 24th Our Lady of Merces All-Goa 8-a-side football edging past Arlem Youth Association, Raia, via the tie-breaker 6-5 after the teams were level 1-1 at full time at Chinchinim Church ground, Sunday.
Raia’s Garrison Fernandes missed a sitter in the very first minute. Thereafter, Maina’s Maldino Rodrigues’ powerful right footer found the back of the Arlem nets in the 11th minute giving no chance to the rival keeper.
Danny Fernandes equalised for Raia in the 16th minute with a well placed header off a cross from Velito Cruz. The teams shared two goals at the lemon break.
In the dying minutes, Maina’s Maldino Rodrigues’ volley missed the target narrowly.
In the shoot-out Maina scored through Jollan, Joliston, Caitano, Christian, Edwin. Velito Klins, Levan, Danny found the nets for Arlem.
The winners now meet holders Navelim VA in the semis.
