Manas Mavericks clinch PGML 3.0 title

PANJIM: Manas Mavericks scored a comprehensive 44-run victory over holders Dempo Challengers to clinch the PGML 3.0 title at Panjim Gymkhana ground, Campal, here, on Sunday.

Manas Mavericks, who won the toss and batted first, posted a huge total of 197/7 with Robin D’Souza blasting 37 runs off 11 balls (2×4, 4×6) after openers – Abhijit Bhandare (37 off 15 balls) and captain Ilyas Naroo (35) had set a terrific tempo to the inning.

Sumiran and Harsh Parekh (18) then added 52 runs for the fourth wicket taking Dempo Challengers to a competitive stage where the team score read 120/4 in 11.2 overs.

Thereafter, Dempo Challengers lost their way with spinner Rohit Rane (4/17) and Mukhtar Amlani (2/11) delivering crucial blows to ensure that Manas Mavericks pressed for victory. The defending champions were bowled out for 153 in 17.5 overs.
