CURTORIM: Mandopa SC blanked Uguem Rising Club 3-0 to lift the 30th Curtorim Panchayat Cup organised by Maina Sports Club, at Curtorim ground, on Sunday.
Both teams played an attacking brand of football. In the second minute Americo Rodrigues sent in a long ball to Mandopa’s Climax Lawrence but Uguem’s Handlee Carvalho tackled the latter’s move. Three minutes later, Uguem striker Isarael Gomes’ shot was brilliantly saved by Mandopa keeper Selvin Gomes.
Thereafter, Mandopa missed chances in the 10th and 12th minutes through Myron Gomes and Maxton Costa respectively.
In the second half, Mandopa coach Salvador Pereira changed the game plan and this move paid off with three quick goals through Prestley Gomes’ snap shot in the 46th and 50th minutes.
Ten minutes later, Rovan Pereira’s glancing header made it 3-0 for Mandopa.
Uguem striker Arnal Rodrigues’ moves in the 57th and 60th minutes were thwarted by Mandopa defenders.
Uguem tried to score but the defence wall of Mandopa prevented the Uguem strikers from scoring.
The winners were awarded Rs 40,000 while the runners-up received Rs 30,000 plus trophies
Reginaldo Lourenco, MLA of Curtorim constituency was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to winners and runners-up in the presence of Moreno C,Rebello, ZP Member Curtorim Constituency, Fr. Joseph Salema, parish priest of St Alex Church, Curtorim, Rui Kery Menezes, Sarpanch of village panchyat Curtorim, Simon Barretto, president of Maina SC, Evangelist Rebello club officials and other dignitaries.
