PANJIM: Mandrem Parish Youth scored a solitary goal win over Camurlim Parish Youth in the final of All-Goa 4-a-side youth tournament organised by the Mâe De Deus Chapel Youth in memory of football enthusiast Succor Furtado from Gaunsavaddo-Siolim, at the chapel ground, Gaunsavaddo-Siolim, recently.
The all-important goal was scored by Regan Fernandes. Teams from parishes across Goa were invited, and a total of 16 teams participated in this league-based tournament. Two teams from each of the four groups qualified for the knockout stages. The tournament schedules and results were uploaded live on a web portal shared with all participating teams.
Deepa Pednekar, sarpanch of Siolim-Sodiem Panchayat, was the chief guest and presented the winners’ trophy, in the presence of Fr Sebastian SSS, Camurlim Parish Priest Fr Francis Fernandes, treasurer of Cofre of Mâe de Deus Chapel June Pinto, and other dignitaries.
The Chaplain of Mae De Deus Chapel, Fr Sebastian, honoured late Succor Furtado’s wife Ida and son Sheldon, for Succor’s immense support and dedication to the sport.
Earlier, Sr Tina Cardozo, the Superior of Holy Cross Convent, Siolim, recited a prayer and also kicked off the tournament. Jocelyn Fernandes compered, while Anushka Fernandes, the youth president, proposed a vote of thanks.
