FATORDA: Manovikas English HS, Margao defeated Auxilium HS, Benaulim by a solitary goal to move into the next round of the U-17 Subroto Mukherjee Salcete Taluka girls football tournament organised by DSYA, at PJN Stadium, Fatorda, on Monday.
Auxilium’s Sandra Fernandes should have netted in the 6th minute after collecting the ball from Aulata Kamble as she dribbled past the Manovikas defenders Abhida Barretto and Rifaa Khalif and shot from the top of the Manovikas box but the Manovikas keeper was equal to the task.
At the other end, Manovikas through Keeifar D’Souza’s long ranger should have scored but the ball failed to enter into Auxilium net in the 12th minute.
It was Gretal Pereira who netted the match winner with a placement shot in the 29th minute.
In another match, Regina Martyrum HS, Assolna blanked the Kings HS, Sao Jose de Areal 6-0 to move into the next round.
Razia Pereira netted a hat-trick while Clency Miranda, Daisy Crasto, Suveda Kokale netted a goal each for the winners.
In the last match of the day, Fatima Convent HS, Margao blanked St Anthony HS, Majorda 5-0 to move into the next round.
Meloshka Carvalho netted a hat-trick while Paloma Pires and Swellen Fernandes netted a goal each for Fatima Convent HS.
