CALANGUTE: Manuel Fernandes of Saleria, Goa Velha defeated Domnic Cardozo of Calangute to emerge winner of the 18th All Goa Coconut breaking contest, organised by Active Boys of Calangute and held at Calangute Association ground, on Sunday.
There were a total 20 participants in the competition.
Each participant was allowed to contest with five coconuts each.
After several rounds of games, Manuel Fernandes with 3 coconuts and Domnic Cardozo with 1 coconut entered the final.
In the deciding hit, Domnic Cardozo’s coconut broke leaving Manuel Fernandes as the winner.
Deputy Chairman Goa Legislative Assembly and MLA of Calangute Constituency and chief guest Michael Lobo, guests of honour Anthony Menezes, sarpanch of VP Calangute and Alirio Lobo, president of Calangute Association gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up.
The winner and runner-up were awarded cash prize of Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively plus trophies. The third place winner Pascoal Fernandes of Calangute was also awarded a cash prize of Rs 3000.
Delilah Lobo, Sarpanch of VP Calangute and Cheryl Vilanova Lobo, panch of VP Calangute were also present for the event.
