BENAULIM: Marc Caterers, Nuvem registered a comfortable 2-0 victory over Chinchinim Veterans to enter the semi-finals of the 18th V M Salgaocar Memorial Veterans Soccer tournament organized by Prime Sports Club, at St John the Baptist Ground, Dando-Benaulim, on Saturday.
Both the teams made a very slow start but Nuvem got the breakthrough in the 22nd minute when striker Mario Rebello who was about to score was fouled by the Chinchinim goalkeeper Cajie Fernandes to concede a penalty.
The Nuvem stopper Nana Borkar easily converted the spot kick with a rasping right footer. Chinchinim despite a goal down were content in defending and made occasional raids which did not trouble Nuvem defence consisting of Luis Cardozo, Nana Borkar and Menino Fernandes.
Nuvem had two glorious opportunities to increase the lead but striker Mithun Carvalho and Francis Vodlo missed easy chances.
Chinchinim’s best chance fell for striker Seby Vaz but his effort landed into the hands of the rival goalkeeper Anand Adkonkar. Nuvem made the issues safe when substitute striker Santan Furtado netted the second goal eight minutes before the close.
Earlier the club observed Jackson Day in memory of Late Jt. Secretary of the club Jackson Rebello. The chief guest Alvaro Gomes was introduced to the teams by Charles Fernandes.
