Marcus, Mackroy on target for Goa

MARGAO: Goa started off their campaign on a winning note with a 2-1 victory over Maharashtra in the West Zone Group D league qualifying football match of the Santosh Trophy, at Rajkot ground, in Gujarat, on Sunday.

Goa started in a whirlwind fashion and drew the first blood in the eighth minute when striker Marcus Mascarenhas slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot off a well measured cross from captain Micky Fernandes.
Spurred by the early lead, Goa intensified their attacks and raided the rival goal. They were rewarded in the 28th minute when Parryson Rebello’s shot was handled by rival player inside the penalty box and referee without hesitation awarded a penalty.
Mackroy Peixoto converted the resultant spot kick.
Goa goalkeeper Jaison D’Mello had a good game with some excellent saves while skipper Micky was flawless and adjudged Man-of-the-match.
