PANJIM: Defending champions Margao Cricket Academy got the better of Ahmedabad Kerala Samajam Club by 20 runs in the first of the two league matches and staked their claim to enter the quarter-finals at SGVP ground, Ahmedabad.
Winning the toss and electing to bat, MCA were soon in trouble with Suraj Dongre (9) falling cheaply again. Wickets started falling at regular intervals with the touring side being in dire straits at 114 for 7 with Ganesh Sake (43) and Sher Bahadur Yadav (24). But Sarthak Gangavne (17), Durgesh Prabhugaunker (19 not out) and Raje Jagdale (17 not out) led a late charge for MCA to finish at 165 for 8 in 20 overs. Yash Vardhan was the best bowler on view claiming two wickets.
