BENAULIM: Margao SC defeated Cuncolim Union 1-0 to move into the semi-finals of the St Sebastian Union Club Benaulim football tournament, at St John the Baptist ground, Benaulim, on Saturday.
Margao SC’s Necil Pinto’s left footed shot was saved by Jeston Fernandes keeper of Cuncolim Union in the 6th minute, followed by another long-range effort by Cliff Barretto which was also blocked by the rival keeper. Midway through the first half, Cuncolim Union’s Bharat Gaonkar took control of the ball and shot from close range but the rival keeper saved it.
The much awaited match winner was scored by Cliff Barretto for Margao SC in the 52nd minute.
Cuncolim Union tried their level best to equalise but Margao SC sealed their defence lines. Margao SC will clash with CAC Cansaulim in the semi-finals on July 10.
