Mathew’s brace sends St Rock in final

MARGAO: A fine brace by striker Mathew Colaco helped St Rock Youth Club, Calata-Majorda to crush Betalbatim Sporting Club 4-2 to storm into the final of All-Goa 25th Super Soccer inter-village tournament organized by United Boys of Dando-Colva, at St John the Baptist ground, Dando-Benaulim, on Wednesday. The teams were tied 1-1 at the end of normal period.
The teams adopted aggressive approach and kept the crowds on their toes. It was Betalbatim who took the lead in the very third minute after striker Austin Fernandes slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot. 
However, their joy was short-lived as St Rock equalized in the 17th minute when Sadiq Ahmed converted a penalty-kick after a rival player handled the ball inside the box.
Crossing over, the teams dished out good brand of soccer and there were plenty of thrills at either end. Allwick Furtado made it 2-1 in favour of Betalbatim after the restart. Stunned by the lead, St Rock went into an attacking mode and pushed the rival defence in disarray. Wellington Fernandes, who was in thick action, levelled the scoring with a stiff grounder.
Then, St Rock raised their tempo with striker Mathew Colaco turned the tables as he pumped two quick goals to give his team victory.
