MAPUSA: Merces SC registered a comfortable 2-0 win over Candolim Sports Club to move ahead in the 50th year celebration of Nerul Sports Club Golden Jubilee Cup, organised by Nerul Sports Club, played at Nerul football ground, on Thursday.
It was Candolim colts that had the first attempt at the goal in the first minute where Canute D’Souza’s close range shot was well saved by Merces keeper Elesh Shirvolkar.
However, in the 15th minute, Merces opened their account through Vishal Adkonkar off an assist from midfielder Sachin Shirvolkar, 1-0.
Another chance went in vain for Candolim’s striker Mukund Agarwadekar as he failed to get the better of the keeper in one-to-one situation.
On resumption of play in the 43rd minute, Merces striker Gourav Kankonkar doubled the lead off an assist from Saish Kavlekar, 2-0.
As the match progressed Candolim’s Deu Sangelkar missed another chance to score from close.
Despite creating chances, Candolim simply couldn’t get on the score sheet.
Saish Kavlikar of Merces Club bagged the Man-of-the-Match award.
