PANJIM: Padre Conceicao College and MES College emerged champions of ‘Vlastos 2018’ Futsal tournament in the men and women category organised by Nirmala Institute of Education at Caculo Mall on Saturday.
The men’s final match played between SS Dempo College and Padre Conceicao College of Engineering ended in a draw which led to the penalty shootout where Padre Conceicao College of Engineering emerged as winners. The final score was 3-1
Manashawn Fernandes of Padre Conceicao College of Engineering was declared the player of the tournament while Suresh Lamani of MES College bagged the best goalkeeper award. Dion Fernandes took home the best striker award.
Earlier, MES College, Padre Conceicao College of Engineering, Dempe College of Arts and Science and SS Dempo College qualified to the semi-finals.
MES College lost in the tie-breaker round against Padre Conceicao College of Engineering 5-4 while SS Dempo College stood out on the ground by a score of 3-2 against Dempe College of Arts & Science.
In the women’s final, MES College marked an outstanding performance against Nirmala Institute of Education by winning 2-0.
Earlier, MES College, St Joseph Vaz, Chowgule College and Nirmala Institute of Education- A qualified to the women’s semi-finals.
In the first semi-finals MES College won against St Joseph Vaz College 2-0 while in the 2nd semis Nirmala Institute of Education was successful in scoring a 3-2 win in the tie-breaker against Chowgule College.
Latisha Khedekar of MES College bagged the player of the tournament award while Ciera D’Souza of MES College took home the best goalkeeper award. Best striker was awarded to Orlena Vales of Nirmala Institute of Education.
Dr Delia Antão gave away the trophies, certificates, medals and cash prize to the winners and runners up in the presence of Princy Rego- Rego Food Products and Suvarna Gauns – associate professor.
